Moapa Valley High School

College and Career-Readiness

Moapa Valley High School is focused on preparing students for post-secondary opportunities. In supporting this initiative, an Agriculture Advisory Board was started in May of 2017, led by teacher Mrs. Denise O’Toole. The Advisory Board consists of parents, industry professionals, and community members who share a vision for supporting and improving agriculture curriculum in Moapa Valley.

In order to increase student achievement and support students, after school tutoring is available on a daily basis and FFA Career Development Event practices are held during lunch and after school. In addition, students are provided several opportunities to utilize the skills they obtain. During daily classes, students have hands on agricultural practices at the Moapa Valley High School Laboratory Farm. Students have participated in field trips to the Mirage to observe their horticulture department. The students work collaboratively with the Southern Nevada Water Authority at their Warm Springs Natural Area in environmental and natural resource projects. Ag Mechanics students have completed several community projects, such as trailers, gates, basement window well covers, carts for track hurdles, and a portable scoreboard. Future Farmers of America also provide support at several events such as the Greenhand Leadership Conference for first year students, soils career development events where MVHS students placed first in home site evaluation and third place in land judging, a Winter Leadership Training, and the State FFA Leadership Conference.
